It seems the whole world stopped to watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s bombshell Oprah interview when it aired last year, including one Beyoncé Knowles. In the second part of their Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” the Sussexes are shown reacting to a thoughtful text from the music icon. In her message, Beyoncé applauds Meghan’s courage in the interview, which was preceded by the couple’s royal exit in 2020.

“I still can’t believe she knows who I am.”

In one of the quieter moments in the sixth episode of the revelatory docuseries, Harry and Meghan sit at a desk and field reactions to their sit-down with Oprah. Following a phone call with her mom, Doria Ragland, Meghan calmly says, “Beyoncé just texted.” Harry gasps dramatically: “Shut up.” Meghan says Beyoncé just wanted to check in, and Harry adds, “‘Just checking in.’ Just casual.” Meghan responds, “I still can’t believe she knows who I am.”

Meghan goes on to read more from the text: “She said she wants me to feel safe and protected. She admires and respects my bravery and vulnerability and thinks I was selected to break generational curses that need to be healed.” Harry says, “That’s well said.”

Meghan and Beyonce have crossed paths a few times in the past. In 2019, Beyoncé and Jay-Z accepted a Brit Award via video message, standing in front of a regal portrait of the duchess. Beyoncé soon after shared on her website a powerful tribute to Meghan in honor of Black History Month. The two would go on to meet for the first time later that year at the London premiere of “The Lion King,” and when the aforementioned Oprah interview aired, Beyoncé shared another message of support on her website: “Thank you Meghan for your courage and leadership. We are all strengthened and inspired by you.”
