We all know that “Married At First Sight” is no stranger to a cheating scandal, and the issue seems to have reared its head once again. The so-called scandal rocked the experiment tonight after Jesse accused ‘wife’ Claire of having secret phone calls with fellow groom Adam.
And while, as viewers, we weren’t shown any footage of the alleged infidelity, we wanted unpack what went down between Claire, Adam and Jesse. So, let’s commence our investigation.
The Situation:
It was 1.15am, and Jesse was furious.
“I just lost my s**t. I was literally at a point where I could not control my anger,” he fumed. “I’m not happy, like why the f**k would you do that?”
What was it that made him so angry, you ask? At the group drinks, Jesse had become suspicious that Claire and Adam were engaging in a secret relationship.
According to Jesse, he’d seen the pair flirting at group drinks, watched them both leave the venue, and then caught Claire on the phone to someone who Jesse believed sounded like Adam in the early hours of the morning.
Jesse then said that he’d confronted his ‘wife’ over the phone call, recounting that she’d frantically tried to hang up, while pretending to be on the phone to “the girls”.
Furious, Jesse then stormed over to Janelle and Adam’s apartment, banged on their door and demanded to look at Adam’s phone, but Adam refused.
The Evidence:
Look, we’ll be real: there isn’t any, really.
The episode didn’t give us any footage of the situation, but we did see Jesse give us a blow-by-blow account of his version of events.
From the reaction of all involved, it’s safe to say that Jesse did have his outburst which led him to banging on Adam and Janelle’s door, but it’s always possible this is a case of Jesse being insecure in his relationship. That’s what Adam and Janelle seemed to believe was happening.

“[That’s] bang out of order from him [Jesse], coming in here and trying to see my phone,” Adam told his bride.
Although Janelle was (understandably) “shocked” over the whole ordeal, she didn’t seem to be too worried by the allegations.
“I wasn’t expecting that side of [Jesse]… he must be very insecure,” she said.
While there’s no physical evidence (yet) to suggest any wrongdoing, Claire never denied or addressed the situation. And let’s not forget that Adam has openly admitted to cheating in the past. Anything’s possible, so watch this space.
The Fall Out:
The following morning, Claire admitted she was “mortified” and in disbelief after Jesse’s outburst.
“He caused an absolute scene… it’s embarrassing,” she told cameras. “The way he demanded to see my phone, I will not tolerate that. No way, get the f**k out of here. You don’t own me, I’m not your possession.”
She decided to confront him, hold him accountable, and demand an apology.

“You stood over me, you were aggressive, you swore at me and then you stormed out… And I would be wiping that smug smile if I were you,” she said, laying down the law.
Jesse tried to get her to hear him out, but she had no interest in hearing anything other than an apology. Frustrated, Jesse apologised, before making the decision to move out of the apartment. Still, he was left wanting answers about the night in question.
“I think she lacks in empathy… there’s still so many missing pieces of the puzzle, so many things I don’t have clarity on,” he told producers.
While the dust seemed to have settled, being this is “MAFS”, we all know that means the story is far from over, especially as the first commitment ceremony looms.
“Married At First Sight” airs at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
