LOOK: What to expect on the Shoreway this morning

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Two lanes have reopened on the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway as crews work to fix a water main break. Motorists should still expect delays as part of their Thursday morning commute.

The water main break is on the west side of Cleveland, near The Harp Restaurant, Garrett Morgan School and the water tower.

The city opened two lanes of the eastbound Shoreway, which is much better than on Wednesday when an entire chunk of the Shoreway was closed. However, the far left lane is still closed, and there is still water and steel plates in the open lanes.

Cleveland Water has been working on this water main break since last Thursday but the city said it’s a complicated issue since it’s a huge 36-inch pipe with valves spreading around the neighborhoods.

Cleveland Water said crews know where the leak is located and they are working to get it under control. They are trying to do it without disrupting service to customers.

They are not sure how long it’ll take to fix.

Cleveland City Council President Blaine Griffin said his phone has been ringing since the water main opened up last week.

“It’s my understanding, talking to Director Martin Keane, that they are throwing every resource available at this to address the issue,” said Griffin. “I think it’s great that customers aren’t losing water while they fix this water main break.”

There is a big weekend ahead downtown as with the first Cleveland Browns game at Huntington Bank Field.  While city officials hope to have the problem fixed before the game, the city said they will be prepared with officers and public safety rerouting traffic.
