In a rescue operation that lasted 2 hours, an approximately 4-year-old male leopard was rescued by Wildlife SOS & the Maharashtra Forest Department from a 35-feet-deep well in Narayanwadi located in Junnar division of Pune district, Maharashtra.Leopard in well

When Wildlife SOS and the Forest Department heard about the emergency, they rushed over to the rescue.

The villagers lowered a metal plank down the well in the meantime to give the leopard a place to stay afloat before help arrived.

When the rescue team finally arrived, they lowered a trap cage down into the well, and the scared and distressed leopard immediately climbed inside to safety.

Kartick Satyanarayan, CEO and co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said, “This is the second incident this week where we have assisted the Forest Department with the timely rescue of a leopard from an uncovered well.

The issue cannot be taken lightly. It is not just leopards, a species protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, that are vulnerable to these wells, but also several other species that may fall in accidentally, with potentially fatal results.”
