Five Just Stop Oil protestors were arrested last night after disrupting a performance of Les Miserables in London’s West End.

The performance was halted and then abruptly ended for the night after the protestors stormed the stage and called to the audience to “join the rebellion,” an ironic cry given the subject matter of the play they were interrupting.

The stage invasion happened during the performance of Do You Hear the People Sing?. In a post on X, Just Stop Oil said four people had locked themselves to the stage at the Sondheim Theatre. The post added: “4 people are locked to the stage of the French-revolution-themed show. Valjean steals bread to feed a starving child. How long before we are all forced to steal.”

The Metropolitan Police later confirmed five people aged 28, 23, 22, 19 and 18 were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass and they remain in custody, according to the BBC.

Police have appealed for anyone with footage to get in touch.

The Just Stop Oil movement has several demands including wanting the government to stop the production of fossil fuels in the UK.

Protestors have been interrupting events all summer including an Ashes test cricket match at Lords, tennis at Wimbledon and the BBC Proms.
