CLEVELAND (WJW) — There is new urgency to find out what’s going on with the mental health for the accused killer of a Cleveland police officer.
Delawnte Hardy, who is alleged to have killed his own grandmother and Officer Jamieson Ritter, has been in a state-run mental health facility since last fall. Hardy was found incompetent for trial.
Hardy’s case went before a Cuyahoga County judge at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Cuyahoga County prosecutors are pressing doctors for answers. Prosecutors said Hardy did not take his medicine for months while at the hospital. For Hardy’s case to go forward, he needs to be found competent by the end of October.
In the meantime, there are more questions about what the FOX 8 I-Team discovered. The court revealed Hardy was suspected of taking illegal drugs in that state-run mental health hospital. But we found the agency running the hospital never reported that to the state patrol to investigate.
That agency has said it never found “contraband,” so it didn’t call in law enforcement. But again, the hospital’s first report sent to the judge outlined what was happening with suspected illegal drugs there.
