The TV rights to the popular horror movie franchise Halloween have been purchased by Miramax after an intense bidding war.

Deadline has revealed that Trancas International Films has signed a “wide-ranging deal” with Miramax to co-produce and develop a television series based on the Halloween franchise. The deal also comes with a first-look agreement in regards to other TV projects that are part of the international market.

The outlet notes that the new TV series will be closely overseen by Trancas International Film’s Malek Akkad and Miramax Head of Global TV Marc Helwig. Not only that, but the show could reportedly serve as the beginning of a cinematic universe that would reach across television and movies.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring Halloween to television,” Helwig stated. “We are thrilled to expand our long and successful partnership with Trancas and the brilliant Malek Akkad in introducing this iconic franchise to a new form of storytelling and a new generation of fans.”

“Trancas International Films is extremely enthused to be expanding our long-standing relationship with Miramax, and we look forward to working with Marc Helwig and the entire team in creating this new chapter,” Akkad stated.

How many Halloween films are there?

Halloween has spanned 45 years and 13 films, including remakes, reboots, “requels,” and one movie that didn’t feature Myers at all. David Gordon Green revived the franchise with 2018’s Halloween and its subsequent sequels, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. The trilogy proved divisive even by Halloween standards but brought a seemingly definitive end to the original story.
