There were a lot of rumblings that Thurdsay would bring a new GTA VI trailer, as we get closer to the game’s November release date. Well, there wasn’t one, but there was something else, and it’s interesting. Rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will have an “extended look” three weeks from now, on August 27. The twist here is that it will premiere first on Netflix at 3 PM ET. Don’t have a Netflix subscription? Well, it will go online on YouTube six hours later at 9 PM ET. Forbes
A US judge in New Mexico has ordered Meta to pay another $567m (£421m) for its failure to warn the public about dangers its platforms posed to children, marking the largest fine against the company over child safety. Judge Bryan Biedscheid said the social media giant is a “public nuisance” akin to air pollution and that it must put the money in a fund aimed at reducing future harms. Thursday’s ruling is in addition to $375m in fines Meta was already ordered to pay in the case, for a total of $942m. BBC
Sony may be looking at ways to incorporate ads from “non-endemic” brands into its console, as the company increasingly looks for ways to maximise profits. Digiday spotted a series of new job listings posted last month by the platform holder, which imply it’s looking to explore new advertising opportunities across the PlayStation ecosystem. One role based at its headquarters in San Mateo specifically seeks a Director of Client Partnerships, which would be responsible for partnering with major brands and selling emerging ad opportunities. Dolby Laboratories and Hisense have launched the first rollout of Dolby Vision 2, bringing the next generation of Dolby’s HDR picture technology to select Hisense television models through a firmware update. The rollout begins with Hisense’s 2026 UX, UR9, UR8 and U7 series televisions – marketed as the U7 Pro in Europe, the Middle East and Central & South America – running either Google TV or the VIDAA operating system. Scientists have made the first viruses designed by artificial intelligence in a milestone that raises hopes for new medicines but also concerns over how to ensure the technology remains safe. The viruses are specific kinds known as bacteriophages, which only infect bacteria and are used around the world to treat patients with persistent infections. In lab tests, a cocktail of the AI-designed viruses killed E coli bugs that were resistant to natural bacteriophages. BBC
A Brighton bar has banned customers from wearing “creepy and intrusive” Meta smart glasses, citing concerns over privacy and safety. The Yellow Book bar, on York Place, announced the policy in a post on Instagram, asking visitors to remove the wearable technology before entering the venue. A sign shared online by the bar reads: “Please don’t wear Meta glasses at The Yellow Book because they are creepy and intrusive.” TheArgus
