Glen Powell is opening up about his role in Top Gun: Maverick, and sharing how he truly felt about it.

The 34-year-old actor spoke to GQ in a new interview, revealing that he after he was passed over for Rooster and then offered the part of Hangman, and referred to him as a Navy Draco Malfoy.

Needless to say, he had some reservations.

“He was there to add conflict to Rooster’s character, which is a good thing, but he wasn’t three-dimensional and he had no pay off. I didn’t know why he existed,” Glen said of his character. “It was a leap of faith. In hindsight, I’m like, God, I can’t imagine if I missed out on this one, but it wasn’t so obvious.”

However, Glen opened up more to the character when Tom Cruise helped him find ways to make the character more likable.

“It’s not that I need people to root for you, but I need them to love watching you,” he recalled the advice. “In some places in the world, this piece of body language will turn them off emotionally to your character.”
