The Broadway revival of Funny Girl has set its closing date for Sunday, September 3. Cast members Lea Michele, Ramin Karimloo, Jared Grimes, and Tovah Feldshuh have all extended their contracts to stay with the show through closing night.
The show released a new promotional video (if, like me, you are not here for Lea Michele, you can mute the video and enjoy the snippets of choreography by So You Think You Can Dance alumna Ellenore Scott).
The North American tour begins in Providence, Rhode Island, on September 9.
The show set a new box office record at the August Wilson Theatre for the week ending January 8, 2023, with a gross of $2,062,739, a record high for an eight-performance week. The production previously broke the all-time August Wilson Theatre house record with a gross of $2,005,696 for the week ending December 28, 2022, and then broke it again for the nine-performance week ending January 1, 2023, with a gross of $2,405,901. Prior to Funny Girl, Mean Girls set the house record in 2018 with a gross of $1,994,386.
