Julia Roberts and Danny Moder have been married for 20 years, and throughout the decades, their love has only gotten stronger.
“When I’m not working, [being a homemaker] is my full-time job,” Roberts, 54, told CBS Sunday Mornings over the weekend. “It isn’t rainbows and kittens every day, but it does bring me a lot of joy.
“It’s just never consumed me, being an actor. It is my dream come true, but it is not my only dream come true.
“The life that I have built with my husband [and] the life that we’ve built with our children, that’s the best stuff. To come home at the end of the day, triumphantly, to them.”
The couple famously met in 2000 while working on the movie The Mexican.
Moder, 53, a cinematographer, was part of the crew, while Roberts starred in the film alongside Brad Pitt.
Both were in relationships with other people at the time, with Roberts dating Benjamin Bratt and Moder married to makeup artist Vera Steimberg.
Moder and Steimberg eventually split in 2002, though the story has scandalous roots. According to Parade, the pair split due to an affair between Roberts and Moder.
Despite the controversy, Roberts and Moder got married swiftly, tying the knot on July 4 (US Independence Day) that same year.
Roberts, who is fairly private about her personal life, gushed once publicly about the “shift” she felt when she finally partnered with her husband.
“I think that first kind of real… ‘seismic shift’ was meeting Danny,” Roberts told Gwyneth Paltrow on her Goop podcast.
“Getting married to Danny, that was the first, like, my life will never be the same in the most incredible, indescribable way.
“He truly, to this day, to this minute, is just my favourite human. I’m more interested in what he has to say or his point of view just more than anybody. Really, we’re so lucky in that way.”
The couple are now parents to 17-year-old twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, and their son Henry, 15.
