Elizabeth Hurley is looking back at working with Matthew Perry.
Following the release of the 53-year-old actor’s memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, the 57-year-old model/actress recalled filming the 2002 movie Serving Sara with Matthew, whose substance abuse problems shut down film production for more than two months.

“I haven’t actually read the book yet, but I’ve read [excerpts] of it. It’s quite interesting,” Elizabeth told Yahoo Entertainment. “He’s a very funny writer like he’s a very funny man. He’s an incredibly gifted comedian…his way with words is fantastic.”
Elizabeth continued, “I have very fond memories of him. To be honest, it was a nightmare working with him at that time and, as it’s now known, our movie was shut down because of his addiction. We were in a force majeure and had to all sit at home twiddling our thumbs for some time.”
In his memoir, Matthew acknowledged the impact his addictions had on both Elizabeth and Serving Sara director Reginald Hudlin while they filmed in Dallas, Texas.
“During Serving Sara … the director was pissed off — I’d ruined his movie,” Matthew wrote. “Elizabeth Hurley, my costar, was pissed off (she never got to do another movie, either).”
In his interview Diane Sawyer, Matthew recalled having to re-voice everything he had previously shot before going to rehab, due to his slurred speech from being intoxicated on set.
“It was shot in Dallas and I was doing Friends at the same time, so it doubled my workload,” Matthew recalled. “And I was flying on a private jet drinking vodka out of a water bottle.”
Despite this, Elizabeth said that Matthew “was fabulous” to work with after his return from rehab.
“It was tough, obviously he was having a tough time, but he was still very charming and a lovely person to work with, Elizabeth shared, “but you could see he was suffering for sure.”
