Disgraced South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh was found guilty Thursday on all four counts in the murders of his wife and son.

Murdaugh’s wife, Maggie, 52, and son Paul, 22, were found shot to death on the family’s 1,770-acre property in South Carlina on June 7, 2021.

Several months following the murders, Murdaugh came under fire after it was discovered that he had stolen money from his law firm and even staged his own suicide attempt so that it appeared he was murdered so surviving son Buster could collect a life insurance policy.

In July 2022, Murdaugh was indicted for the murders–nearly a year after the killings. The disbarred attorney was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

During the trial, Murdaugh took to the stand in his own defense and continued to deny he killed his wife and son while admitting to numerous lies.

Prosecutors believed he killed his wife and son in a desperate attempt to distract attention from his financial crimes and gain sympathy from the surrounding community.

Murdaugh still faces another trial where he has nearly 100 charges against him for various financial crimes, including fraud, money laundering, tax evasion and forgery. He’s also been accused of stealing more than $8 million and trying to get a man to kill him in a $10 million life insurance scheme.
