GLADES COUNTY, Fla. — A semi-truck crashed with a train and caused eight train cars to derail on a highway in Glades County on Monday.

The crash happened at the US-27 and North of Boar Hammock Ranch Rd. at around 10 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck driver attempted to do a right curve and failed to stop at the railroad crossing. The press release states that the lights were activated, and multiple whistles were blown to alert the driver.

However, the front of the truck crashed with the second train car. The crash caused eight other cars to dislodge from the tracks, causing them to derail.

A 43-year-old man driving the truck sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

FHP says that the cleanup process remains ongoing, and the travel lanes of US 27 at the railroad crossing location are temporarily closed.
