Davido opened up briefly about the drowning death of his young son last year while speaking on his latest album.

On Friday, the Nigerian singer spoke with CNN regarding the devastating loss. While he didn’t go into details about the untimely passing of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, he did reveal that his latest project, “Timeless,” will touch on the situation that could “break anybody.”

“You will hear a couple songs that might take you back into some emotions,” he shared before adding that his new album has more than just music focused on grieving.

The superstar said people from across the world reached out to him; some he knew, while others were strangers. He says the outpouring of love was a welcome gift during his time of need.

“Personally with me, the support I got from people was one of the things that helped me stand up again,” he continued.

Ifeanyi passed away in November 2022 after drowning in a swimming pool at the family’s Lagos, Nigeria home. Davido nor his now wife Chioma Rowland were home when the tragedy unfolded. The death occurred shortly after the child’s third birthday. Several members of Davido’s staff, including his chef and nanny, were at the home when the child entered the water and were eventually arrested.

Davido is determined to continue delivering positive vibes in his music despite his personal loss. He has not gone into detail about his feelings towards these individuals and their roles in his son’s death. For now, he is ready to get back to his music, which is helping him to heal. “Timeless” is out now and features appearances from Skepta, Fave, and several others.
