Christie Brinkley has zero time the “wrinkle brigade.” On June 29, the supermodel clapped back at commenters who made rude remarks about her appearance on social media. Brinkley posted an Instagram carousel of an unfiltered car selfie and two photos of buildings in New York City, captioning the post, “Downtown Girl,” a nod to her appearance in Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” music video. The 69-year-old’s post was soon flooded with comments about her wrinkles, but she wasn’t having it. Brinkley soon after edited her caption to call out the haters and thank the many fans who came to her defense.

“Whoa Nelly ! The Wrinkle Brigade is out in full force in the comment thread!” she wrote. “They are the people that scan celebrities pages, hoping to find some cellulite , wrinkles , or anything that they can point to to to critique.” The mother of three continued, “It must be somd [sic] form of compensation for some thing they are lacking. But when those people appear, there are others who pop up with messages so kind and valuable. Those are the comments that restore my faith and make my heart sing! Thank you sweet souls.”

During the ’80s and ’90s, Brinkley rose to fame as one of the era’s most famous models, thanks to her appearances in Sports Illustrated and other publications. These days, she’s candid about aging and advocates for people to ignore societal pressures and do what’s best for themselves.

“I think the important thing is to do what works best for you,” she told People in March. “People will put pressure on you in every direction. If you don’t go gray, some people really make a big deal about it, like ‘Oh, that’s so disappointing. She’s not owning it. She’s trying to do something other than who she is.’ And it’s like, no. I believe firmly that if there’s something bothering you, take care of it.”
