Chris Hemsworth has starred as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe across four solo films and various ensemble roles. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth pondered his future in the role, as well as what a conclusive Thor movie might be.

In the interview, Hemsworth was asked if there was more Thor in his future. The actor was somewhat coy, saying that he wasn’t sure, but that he thinks “there’d be more to say if the people want to hear me say it.” Hemsworth then also noted that he knows Marvel Studios promised more Thor, and that he’d be open to it if it was “something unique and fresh and unexpected.”

“Yeah, I think they always do,” said Hemsworth on the “Thor will return” banners at the end of each film. “Look, I’m completely open to it, if there is something unique and fresh and unexpected to do with the character and the world. I’ve always loved the experience. I’ve been very thankful I’ve been able to do something different each time.”

The topic of conclusions was then brought up, with Hemsworth being asked about Thor receiving a definitive conclusion after Iron Man and Captain America both got their own. To that, Hemsworth said that if he ever played Thor again, they’d have to “close the book” on it and that his next portrayal of the God of Thunder could be his last.

“Yeah, for sure,” Hemsworth said. “I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know — am I at that stage? Who knows?”

Whether or not Hemsworth is done with Thor remains to be seen. In the meantime, fans can potentially expect the actor to show up in future Marvel Cinematic Universe ensemble films, like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars.
