CLEVELAND (WJW) — Charlie Kirk, the conservative influencer who was shot during an event in Utah and died Wednesday, was scheduled to make an appearance in Cleveland later this month.

Earlier this year, the Center for Christian Virtue announced the 31-year-old podcast host and co-founder of Turning Point as the keynote speaker for its 2025 Celebration Gala Cleveland taking place on Sept. 26 at the downtown Marriott.

Kirk was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the neck at Utah Valley University in Orem, outside of Salt Lake City. President Donald Trump announced on social media around 4:45 p.m. that Kirk had died.

The Center for Christian Value released a statement to FOX 8 News from its president Aaron Baer just prior to the news of Kirk’s passing, as seen below:

Our brother in Christ, Charlie Kirk, was shot at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University this afternoon.

While there are few details on Charlie’s status at the time of sending this email, I ask that you join me and the CCV team in prayer for Charlie’s complete healing. Also be in prayer for Charlie’s wife and children, along with the entire TPUSA team.

Charlie Kirk has inspired millions of Christians, especially college students, to stand courageously for the truth. He is a gifted and fearless communicator, and a brilliant leader. Our nation has not witnessed political violence like this in decades, but this attack will not silence Charlie or CCV’s message.

We will be sure to let you know any details we receive about his status, as well as our scheduled Sept. 26 Cleveland Gala with Charlie.

But until then, please pray in the confidence of Psalm 145:18, ‘The Lord is near to all who call to him, to all who call on him in truth.’

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
