September 27: Icon of the stage and screen Maggie Smith has died aged 89.
The scene-stealing Oscar-, Emmy-, Golden Globe-, BAFTA- and Tony-winning actress died in a London hospital, her devastated sons confirmed.
Smith’s career has spanned decades, with lauded roles in Downton Abbey, the Harry Potter series, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Sister Act, California Suite, A Room With A View, Othello and countless other TV, movie and theatre productions.
Her co-stars and colleagues in the entertainment industry are remembering her as “a true legend of her generation” and a “magnificent actress and magnificent lady”.
