Audiences opted for scares this weekend and powered the latest Exorcist chapter, The Exorcist: Believer, to $27M, per Deadline. The trade notes that Universal Studios purchased the horror franchise from Morgan Creek for $400M in the hopes of making a new trilogy. While this new installment cost just $30M to produce, the numbers, while good, couldn’t match the numbers raked in by David Gordon Green’s 2018 Halloween reboot ($76.2M).

Internationally, The Exorcist collected $17.9M, bringing its global tally to $45.1M.

Last weekend’s headliners, Paw Patrol, Saw X, and The Creator, saw decent holds in their second weekends. Paw Patrol fell 48% and brought in $11.75M to raise its domestic total to $38.8M. Saw X fell 55% for an $8.15M sophomore frame and a $32.5M total, while The Creator dipped 56%, hauled in $6.1M and raised its cume to $24.9M.
