CLEVELAND (WJW) — Case Western Reserve University evacuated on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 30, after a bomb threat was reported at the nearby Cleveland Institute of Art.
“Multiple agencies investigating bomb threat at Cleveland Institute of Art,” reads a Tuesday social media post from Case Western. “Out of an abundance of caution, CWRU will evacuate buildings in the vicinity. Follow all instructions from emergency personnel. DO NOT call CWRU Dispatch unless in an emergency.”
University Circle police investigated at the scene.
The initial report came at about 12:30 p.m., according to Case Western. Authorities gave the all clear just after 1 p.m.
“After evacuating the buildings and having multiple K9 units sweep and clear the buildings, they determined there is no active threat at this time to the community,” reads an update from Case Western.
Roads near the institute were closed Tuesday afternoon:
- Euclid Avenue from Circle Drive to Mayfield Road and from Mayfield Road to East 117th Street
- East 115th Street from Bellflower Road to Euclid Avenue
Drivers and pedestrians were asked to avoid the area.
