A family divided? The polygamous Brown family of Sister Wives may have lost a second sister wife, amid claims that Janelle Brown has left husband Kody Brown.
That would mean the family patriarch is only currently in a relationship with two of the four original sister wives, Meri Brown and Robyn Brown. Christine Brown announced that she and Kody had split in November 2021.
Christine’s daughter Gwendlyn said in a November 8, 2022, TikTok live video that Janelle had left Kody, declaring “girl power,” as Christine’s children are very close with Janelle. She added that “only Meri and Robyn are left,” with Kody.
The father of 18 has long been accused of favoring Robyn over his other wives. He was legally married to Meri married since 1990 but asked for a divorce years later so he could marry the youngest of his wives in order to legally adopt her kids. Kody and Robyn wed in December 2014.
“Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave,” Christine revealed in her split announcement when she became the first wife to leave. She said that the pair would “continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family.” She and Kody share six children.
In season 16 of the TLC show, there was no shortage of drama for the family as they navigated tension, perceived favoritism and more. Kody and his wives were as distanced as ever living in separate homes within about 15 minutes from each other in Flagstaff, Arizona. Christine ended up leaving Coyote Pass and moving into a $1.1 million duplex in Murray, Utah.
Christine opened up to People in August 2022 about the final straw that led to her decision to leave Kody after more than 25 years of marriage.
“He broke my little girl’s heart,” she told the outlet, referring to how the family patriarch refused to travel out of state for their daughter Ysabel’s scoliosis surgery due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “I really find it hard to stay with a guy who I don’t respect. I understood COVID, and why he couldn’t come, but she didn’t. And she still has a really hard time with it.”
Christine continued, “I was there with Ysabel the whole time in New Jersey for the surgery. And I remember them pointing out, like, ‘Are you here alone? Where’s your husband?’ I’m like, ‘Oh, he’s not here.’ And they’re like, ‘Whoa, isn’t that hard?’ And I’m like, ‘No, it’s hard for her.’ It’s hard for Ysabel, but it’s not hard for me.’ It was a good wake-up call.”
