Angela Bassett is finally receiving the recognition she deserves!

On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Bassett, along with Mel Brooks and film editor Carol Littleton, will be honored with honorary Oscars this year. Additionally, Michelle Satter, the founding senior director of the Sundance Institute’s Artist Programs, will also be receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award as well.

The Honorary Oscars are given to deserving individuals in recognition of their outstanding lifetime achievements. These recipients have not only showcased remarkable accomplishments but have also made exceptional contributions to the field of motion picture arts and sciences.

“The Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans,” the academy’s president said. “Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting.”

During her long-standing career, Basset has accumulated two Oscar nominations. The first nomination comes from her portrayal as Tina Turner in the “What’s Love Got To Do With It” film. The second nomination was for Best Supporting Actress in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

This month marked the 30th anniversary of the film “What’s Love Got to Do with It.” During a recent interview, Basset reflected on the determination required to deliver her iconic performance in the movie.

“You got up at five in the morning, went to the gym to workout for two and a half hours,” she said. “Then you would head to Michael Peters and learn routines — which were all intense cardio — for about 10 hours. Ten hours! You had to be so focused and so determined. Pain was irrelevant.”

Nevertheless, the 14th annual Honorary Oscars will be presented at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on November 18th.
