How to get to Jerash
If you’re planning to visit Jerash from Amman, it’s pretty easy. You can hop on a bus at the North Bus Station and be there in just 45-60 minutes for only 1 JD per person. These buses leave when they’re full, but don’t worry – the wait isn’t too bad considering how affordable this option is.
Alternatively, taxis are also available, with prices ranging from JD10 to JD15, depending on your negotiating skills.
And if you’re wondering, is a visit to Jerash an ideal day trip from Amman? Absolutely! So go ahead and plan the adventure without hesitation.
When is the best time to visit Jerash?
In my opinion, the ideal time to explore Jerash in Jordan is from February to May. During my visit in February, although it was a bit chilly outside, there were significantly fewer tourists than during the high season! In addition, this time of year is convenient for visitors to see all of the attractions without too much hassle.
However, if you have more flexibility with your travel dates and want an even better experience – March or April would be perfect months to plan your trip! To help you plan your trip around Jerash, here’s a month-by-month guide to help you prepare for your adventure!
Spring (March to May)
Jerash is a fantastic place to visit in the spring. The weather is perfect, not too hot or too cold, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). You’ll be amazed by the beautiful flowers that are in full bloom throughout the city and its attractions. Don’t miss the Jerash Festival, held every year in July, where you can enjoy cultural performances such as music, dance and theatre!
Summer (June to August)
Summers in Jerash can be quite warm, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F). However, if you don’t mind the heat, you’ll be rewarded with fewer crowds and great deals on accommodation. Just remember to drink plenty of water and find some shade during the day!
August also brings the Gerasa Festival – a fantastic celebration of Jerash’s cultural heritage with musical performances, art exhibitions and delicious food.
Fall (September to November)
Visiting Jerash in the fall is such a beautiful season with temperatures averaging between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). The scenery is breathtaking as the foliage changes to vibrant shades of red and gold. You can take your time exploring historic sites or taking leisurely walks while enjoying the fall scenery. And in October, the Olive Harvest Festival celebrates the rich olive-growing tradition – it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for an authentic cultural experience!
Winter (December to February)
Jerash experiences a pleasant winter season with temperatures ranging from 5°C to 15°C (41°F to 59°F). Though it can get chilly, the city’s historical sites exude an exclusive charm in the foggy weather. So bundle up and venture out to explore ancient wonders without too many tourists around. Accommodation costs in Jerash
Jerash is a perfect day trip from Amman, but if you decide to stay longer, we’ve got some accommodation options for you. Whether you’re on a tight budget or money is no object, Jerash has something for everyone.
Budget Accommodation
If you’re looking for an affordable stay, Jerash’s guesthouses and hostels offer comfortable accommodation at prices ranging from JD 20 to JD 40 (around $25 to $60) per night – the best option for those on a tight budget!
The Blue House “Gerasa”
Conveniently situated in the Jerash part of Jerash, this property puts you close to attractions and interesting dining options.
Mid-Range Accommodation
For mid-range budgets that still want comfort and style combined with affordability, there are cozy hotels and boutique accommodations that average between JD50 and JD100 (around $70 to $100) per night.
Olive Branch Hotel
Situated on a hill overlooking Dibbin Nature Reserve, Olive Branch offers spacious rooms. It has an outdoor pool with sun-lounger terrace. Traditional Jordanian cuisine made with homemade olive oil is served in the restaurant. It has a wood burning fireplace. Local wines and beers are offered at the bar, and Turkish coffee is available at the pool bar.
Luxury Accommodation
But if luxury amenities are more your thing, high-end hotels & resorts in Jerash offer premium services from around JD150 (around $200) upwards – ensuring that every need is catered for during your stay!
Ajloun Forest Reserve
Ajloun Forest Reserve is Located in the Ajloun Highlands in the north of Jordan. Some units have a dining area and/or terrace. Each unit comes with a private bathroom with a bath or shower.
Cost of eating and drinking in Jerash
In Jerash, you will find many vegetarian and vegan options for Jordanian cuisine. Although meat is a staple in traditional dishes, many restaurants and cafes cater to plant-based diets with delicious alternatives. Vegetarian meals are reasonably priced compared to non-vegetarian options, while vegans may need to specify their requirements, which can vary in cost.
Local dining
If you’re looking for an authentic experience that won’t break the bank, local eateries and street food stalls offer mouth-watering meals at affordable prices, ranging from JD2 to JD5 (around $3 to $7) per stuffed falafel wrap or shawarma.
Mid-range restaurants
For those who prefer mid-range dining, restaurants offering both international and local cuisines will satisfy your cravings without breaking the bank, costing around 10 JD-20 JD (around $15 to $30) per person.
Fine dining
Fine dining experiences await visitors seeking exquisite culinary delights, where upscale restaurants offer top-notch service along with gourmet dishes starting at around JD30 (around $40)per person.
How much does it cost to enter Jerash?
If you plan to visit the Jerash Archaeological Site, don’t forget that there is an entrance fee. But it’s not too bad – about 12 JD (around $17) for adults and only 6 JD (around $5) for children under 15. Plus, if you have a Jordan Pass, your entrance fee is covered!
While you’re exploring this incredible site of ancient ruins, why not take part in some workshops or cultural experiences? You could learn how to cook traditional dishes or try your hand at pottery. Prices vary depending on what activity you choose and how long it lasts, but generally range from about 20-50 JD (around $28 to $70) per person. It’s worth every penny though – trust us!
Are there tours available for Jerash?
Absolutely! You can easily find a local guide to show you around the fascinating historical sites in Jerash. The cost usually ranges from JD40 to JD80 (around $56 to $115), depending on how long and detailed a tour you want. I found my guide right at the entrance gate – there were plenty of locals available and eager to help.
Alternatively, you can book online before you. Check out the tours offered on Viator or Get Your Guide – many of these are day tours that may also include other destinations.
If that’s not your style, just ask your taxi driver who might be able to put you in touch with someone. And don’t worry about language barriers; most guides are fluent in English.
