‘A dream of mine’: Texas native returns home for TV weather job

Chase Franks made his on-air debut at KVUE Austin on Wednesday, July 8, as the ABC affiliate’s weekend morning meteorologist. He will also deliver forecasts for the station’s midday and 4 p.m. newscasts Monday through Wednesday.

“I’m a native Texan, so it’s good to finally be back in my home state,” Franks said during his KVUE introduction.

Franks joins KVUE from WLBT 3 in Jackson, Miss., where he served as the morning meteorologist since January 2024. His final day at the station was June 26.

In a farewell message posted in June, he said he and his wife, Hope, were ready for a new adventure after six years in Mississippi.

“If you know me, you know returning to Texas has always been a dream of mine,” he wrote. “Because of everything Mississippi has taught me, I’m excited to say that dream is becoming a reality.”

Franks was born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He developed a passion for weather at an early age and has been storm chasing across the Great Plains since he was 14.

Franks earned a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. He launched his broadcast career while still in college at Gray Television’s WTOK 11 in Meridian, Miss., where he worked as a weekend meteorologist from March 2022 until joining WLBT in January 2024.
