A Deja Vu/Cruel Summer + Good 4 U/Misery Business Update in 2026

In a turn of events, swifities have accidentally come to Olivia Rodrigo’s aid by digging into the past five years later and seemingly exposing Taylor Swift and her team’s actions in the infamous Deja Vu/Cruel Summer crediting dispute.

As no legal battle publicly took place for the 2021 hit Deja Vu, swifties have been able to argue that Olivia willingly offered to add the Cruel Summer songwriters to Deja Vu’s credits (keep in mind for the similarity of… yelling during the bridge). That was until recently, a bored swiftie on Twitter went on a deep dive on Reddit to try to dispel the persistent ‘Taylor was so evil to Olivia’ rumours. Little did they know, they would be doing the exact opposite!

They brought to light that 5 years ago, months before Olivia’s team formally granted Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, and St. Vincent songwriting credits in July of 2021, a Reddit user by the name of BlackbirdAerial made some rather clairvoyant comments regarding Deja Vu’s impending fate.

“Then Taylor demanded publishing from Olivia. She’s not all rainbows and butterflies”

“I’m referring to deja vu”

“Song credits will be updated later this year. Eventually Taylor be listed under ‘song credits’ on Spotify” “Remember this” “It will take awhile for song credits to be updated but I’m right. I’ll circle back later this year”

BlackbirdAerial explained that Taylor was the one who sought out credits and that Olivia’s team did not wish to “fight Taylor and then her fans at such an early point in her career”, as many of Olivia’s fans were also swifties at the time.

The swifties in question revealed that Reddit user BlackbirdAerial shared the name of a drone company, whose owner, Kevin Fagan, is friends with Thomas Krottinger, who signed Olivia to her record label.

So in trying to expose Olivia for “setting the situation up against Taylor to make her look bad”, as they are still trying to claim on social media to this day, swifties unintentionally exposed the credibility in BlackbirdAerial’s allegations. This has obviously sparked backlash against Taylor, ironically, and the original posts on Twitter (I refuse to use its new name!) have since been deleted.

Interestingly enough, according to BlackbirdAerial, Taylor allegedly also went out of her way to convince Paramore to pursue songwriting credits to Good 4 U for its similarities to Misery Business. They state that the band originally appreciated the song but went on to seek writing credits from Olivia with Taylor’s encouragement.

Remember: Hayley Williams’ only statement on the topic was a mere vague Instagram story where she wrote that her record label was “wildin'”, implying that the decision to claim songwriting credits over Good 4 U was in fact out of her hands. No other comments have been made to this day, and Hayley and Josh Farro went on to receive $700k-$1.2 million USD in royalties for their contributions accredited from Misery Business.

sorry if the formatting is weird, it’s 2 AM rn and i’m forced to create this with the “modern post editor” and i can’t figure it out!
