Frozen fried rice fans may want to double-check their freezers.
Nearly 3.4 million pounds of frozen fried rice are being recalled after reports of possible glass contamination in products sold across the United States and Canada. Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. issued the recall following four consumer complaints about glass found in the food, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service on February 19.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
The recalled products were produced between September 8, 2025, and November 17, 2025. Because frozen meals can sit in freezers for months, officials are urging shoppers and retailers to carefully review packaging and date codes.
One impacted item is Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese Style Fried Rice, which was distributed in Canada. It is sold in 1.53-kilogram cardboard boxes containing six individual bags, with Best Before dates ranging from September 9, 2026, to November 12, 2026.
The second product is Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice, distributed to Trader Joe’s stores nationwide in the United States. The 20-ounce plastic bags carry Best By dates from September 9, 2026, to November 17, 2026.
Both products include the establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service is advising consumers and retailers to either return the affected products to the place of purchase or dispose of them immediately. Anyone who believes they may have been injured should contact a healthcare professional.
