The new year is starting off with a massive legal showdown for Will Smith.
After America’s Got Talent standout Brian King Joseph filed a shocking lawsuit on December 30, 2025, alleging sexual harassment and a pattern of “grooming,” Smith’s camp is finally punching back.
On January 1, 2026, the actor’s attorney, Allen B. Grodsky, broke the silence with a firm statement to PEOPLE, making it clear that the Oscar winner has no plans to back down from these serious claims.
Grodsky addressed the allegations brought against both Smith and his company, Treyball Studios Management, Inc. The attorney described the lawsuit, which details a disturbing hotel room incident and claims of retaliatory firing, as a total fabrication.
“Mr. Joseph’s allegations concerning my client are false, baseless, and reckless. They are categorically denied, and we will use all legal means available to address these claims and to ensure that the truth is brought to light.”
The lawsuit that triggered this response is nothing short of explosive. Joseph, 33, claims that during the March 2025 stop of Smith’s Based on a True Story tour in Las Vegas, he returned to his room to find evidence of a “sexual threat of violence.”
According to court documents, the musician discovered a handwritten note from someone named “Stone F” promising a private encounter, along with a collection of random items including a beer bottle and HIV medication. Joseph alleges that when he reported the terrifying discovery to tour management, he was “shamed” and fired just days later, only to be replaced by another violinist.
Beyond the hotel incident, Joseph’s filing suggests that the 57 year old superstar spent months “priming” him for exploitation, allegedly telling the musician they had a “special connection” that Smith didn’t share with anyone else. Joseph, who is seeking damages for PTSD and lost wages, shared an emotional Instagram video on Christmas Day hinting that he was tired of being blamed for reporting misconduct in the workplace.
With Smith’s team now officially on the record calling the claims “reckless,” the stage is set for a high profile battle in the Los Angeles Superior Court.
