Concert-goers in rented SUV flee from local troopers at 100+ mph: OSHP

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Concert-goers in a rented SUV led troopers on a 20-minute chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour before ending in a crash where alcohol was found in the vehicle, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the group was returning to the Cleveland area from a concert in Columbus.

The overnight chase and crash took place at about 2 a.m. Officials said it started on Interstate 71 North in Medina County. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding.

The chase ended when the suspect vehicle tried to take the West Boulevard ramp and crashed on the new, higher curbs.

Troopers said five people inside the vehicle were detained, while one fled on foot and could not immediately be located.

The crash became one of the first tests of new curbs to protect houses on Cleveland’s west side.
