Shoreway to close this weekend for ongoing water main break repairs

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Repairs are still needed after a water main break on the Cleveland’s Memorial Shoreway affected the pavement and traffic starting over Labor Day Weekend.

City officials have announced plans to shut down the Shoreway eastbound starting at 10 a.m. on Friday.

The road will be “fully closed at West 45th Street to allow crews to continue making repairs to a damaged water main beneath the roadway,” reads a Thursday statement.

The plan is to reopen on Monday, Sept. 29, before morning traffic starts.

The westbound portion of the Shoreway is going to remain open during the repairs. Those heading from the west side into downtown are told to take Interstate 90 or Detroit Avenue.

Cleveland Water previously called the repairs to the water main break complicated, involving a huge 36-inch pipe with valves spreading around the neighborhoods. The road has been shut down in some capacity on and off throughout the month.

“We thank drivers for their patience and encourage everyone to plan ahead,” the city said in a statement.
