Doors weren’t until 7:00 p.m. but a crowd of 20-somethings had already gathered outside the club, braving some wet conditions, just to be positioned up against the stage and within spitting distance of the musicians.
Lead singer Paige Turner was accompanied by partner and guitar slinger Lee Newell. California-native Turner and the Brit Newell were joined by the mysteriously-monikered Puma behind the drum kit during a 90-minute set of ethereal pop.
A venue such as Mahall’s allows the audience to experience the show in a fashion reminiscent of the 1970s, when fans placed their drinks directly on the stage mere inches from the band. Turner pointed directly to fans, whose smiles were kindly returned.
Gliding through a 15-tune set, the band closed with two of their most popular songs: “Tired Boy” and “Blossom” from last year’s EP release.
