Usher Says Mookie Betts Checked Him Over Cherry Moment With Wife

Usher may make the ladies drool with his sexy cherry stunt, but one professional athlete was not having it.

Usher revealed during a sit-down with Stephen Colbert that Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts was crystal clear about keeping his wife out of the act.

“Mookie came up to me like, ‘No serenade. Leave the cherries at home,’” Usher said, recalling their brief but firm exchange. Betts, married to longtime partner Brianna Hammonds, didn’t want her caught up in Usher’s viral concert moment.

Colbert joked that Usher should definitely listen to a man who handles baseball bats for a living.

Usher explained that the cherry gesture was never meant to cause drama.

“It’s all in fun. It’s a playful thing that started during my Vegas shows,” he said. “It was strawberries at first, then we switched it up.”
