US Marshals arrest suspect in deadly Cleveland shooting

CLEVELAND (WJW) – U.S. Marshals arrested the suspect in a Cleveland shooting that left one man dead and another injured earlier this summer.

The shooting happened in the 1300 block of East 117th Street on June 20. When Cleveland officers arrived on the scene, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to University Hospitals. One of the victims, 55-year-old Lavelle Scales, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other victim, also 55, suffered non-life-threatening injuries to the abdomen.

Through the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 43-year-old Verdine Glover. He was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for aggravated murder and felonious assault.

On Friday, agents tracked down and arrested Glover at an apartment complex in the 1800 block of Lakeview Road in East Cleveland.

“Another case closed due to the outstanding work by the men and women of the Cleveland Division of Police homicide division,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a release. “Our partnership has resulted in dozens of Cleveland homicide suspects being arrested this year and we will continue to work hand in hand to take these violent fugitives off the street.”
