LA Holocaust Museum apologized for Instagram post ‘misinterpreted by some to be a political statement’

[ad_1]

In September 2025, dozens of social media accounts circulated a graphic that allegedly appeared on the Instagram account of Holocaust Museum LA, claiming that the museum chose to remove the post from its page following a barrage of public pressure. The deleted post reportedly said, “‘Never again’ can’t only mean never again for Jews.”

One response post (archived) on X received more than 10 million views, as of this writing, and the same graphic also spread to other platforms, including Instagram (archived), Threads (archived) and Reddit (archived).

Comments captured from the alleged post as well as comments on other posts regarding the museum’s public response indicated that people interpreted the graphic as referring to Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas.

Other posts included other slides the museum allegedly featured as part of the post’s image carousel:

The post, if real, no longer exists on the Instagram page (archived) of Holocaust Museum LA, nor were we able to find an archived version of the post. We reached out to the museum via phone and email seeking confirmation that the circulated images were authentic, and will update this story if we receive a response.

While we were unable to independently verify the image depicting the words “‘Never again’ can’t only mean never again for Jews,’” the museum did issue a public apology on Sept. 6, 2025, for the alleged post. The apology was available (archived), as of this writing, on the museum’s Instagram page. It read:

Holocaust Museum LA, the first survivor-founded and oldest Holocaust museum in the country, is committed to its core mission to educate, commemorate, and inspire.

We recently posted an item on social media that was part of a pre-planned social media campaign intended to promote inclusivity and community that was easily open to misinterpretation by some to be a political statement reflecting the ongoing situation in the Middle East. That was not our intent.

It has been removed to avoid any further confusion. We promise to do better and we will ensure that posts in the future are more thoughtfully designed and thoroughly vetted.

We have taken actions internally to ensure our message always remains clear and reflective of our mission to inspire humanity through truth.

Dozens of news outlets also reported on the deleted post, including Haaretz (archived) and Al Jazeera (archived).
