CLEVELAND (WJW) – Play Bar and Grill on the corner of West 10th Street and Front Avenue has been boarded up following a shooting that sent five people to the hospital.
Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb ordered the bar in the Flats East Bank to be shut down and boarded up.
Investigators said that on Sunday, around 6:15 p.m., they believe a shooting started inside the bar, which then moved outside. The crime scene stretched down the road where numerous cars had shattered out windows, and there was a bullet hole in the Margaritaville bar.
Five people were rushed to the hospital. An 18-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man, and a 21-year-old man are all in critical condition. Two others in their early 20s have minor injuries.
Police said they believe the suspect is one of the people injured in the hospital.
Witnesses tell FOX 8 they heard gunshots, then there was mass panic.
“It was like big grown men running fast,” said witness Mila Williams.
“Everyone took off and scattered,” added witness Darian White . “Like out of there, gone.”
Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb released a statement Sunday night that reads:
I’m outraged by the shooting in The Flats this evening. Gun violence has no place in our city — period. While the investigation is still unfolding, I’ve already directed my team to immediately shut down and board up the bar involved. We will hold everyone accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
