Ohio: It’s “Spectacular Peak Condition” for Fall Foliage Right Now
[ad_1]
Red, yellow and orange are speckled throughout the trees and this weekend is the best time to enjoy nature’s beauty, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ final fall foliage update for the year.
“We are in the home stretch for fall color in Ohio, with mostly peak conditions throughout the state,” said ODNR Fall Color Forester David Parrott. “Vibrant hues are now splashing through tree canopies, so photo opportunities are plentiful in our outdoor spaces this coming weekend. This fall color season started out a bit slow due to the lack of rainfall this summer but has really picked up the last few weeks.”
Where should you go? While any of your favorite local parks will do, you’d be wise to head out to some choice settings.
What else is on tap?
To kick off the peak fall color season, the annual Hocking State Forest Fall Color Tour takes place on Saturday Oct. 26. This annual event features wagon rides through the forest, educational displays and presentations and refreshments. The tour will begin at the historic cabin located near the Hocking State Forest headquarters in Rockbridge.
Also taking place is the Conkles Hollow State Nature Preserve Fall Open House. Hikers of all abilities are invited to enjoy the stunning view of fall color across two trails including the 2.5 mile loop Rim Trail and 1-mile Lower Gorge Trail that’s paved for easy walking on a natural surface trail that ends with views of a seasonal waterfall. The paved section is accessible for visitors of all abilities.
Naturalists will be along both trails to answer questions about geology, plants, animals and natural history. This event will include educational exhibits and depending on weather conditions, historical reenactors will demonstrate Ohio frontier life in the 1790s.
To find the most eye-catching leaves throughout the season, head over to ODNR’s fall color website for an official guide to the changing colors.
