I-Team: Ohio lawmaker wants phone alerts for escaped convicts

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A state representative is hoping to get a bill passed that would require an alert be issued when a felon escapes from jail.
State Rep. Bill Roemer told the FOX 8 I-Team the notification would be called the “Escaped Convict Alert Program.”
If passed, the alert system would work similar to the Amber Alert. Alerts would be sent to the media and to cell phones.
“It will be very similar to other alerts,” Roemer said. “But what we are going to do is restrict the alert to the immediate area where the convicted or charged felon is located.”
Roemer said he hopes to get a hearing on the bill as soon as possible.
