I-TEAM: Local officer charged with assault off-duty

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-TEAM has learned a police officer for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District has been charged with assault for an incident off-duty.

Last week, Cleveland Police arrested Shawn Willard.

A court complaint said Willard caused “physical harm to the victim by grabbing the victim by the neck and tackling him into a bench at the Forest City Yacht Club.”

Police said Willard, then, took off, and he was found at another Yacht Club.

A police report shows when officers questioned Willard, he said he had “no clue” about the incident.

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District tells us Willard has been placed on paid leave as the case plays out in court.
