Prosecutors In Tory Lanez Case Requesting Deadline Extension In Appeal Proceedings

[ad_1]

As Tory Lanez’s appeal gets underway, prosecutors are hoping for more time for their reply.

On Tuesday, reporter Meghann Cuniff shared court documents that show that Lanez’s attorneys filed their opening brief in his appeal. The “Say It” rapper is currently serving a ten-year sentence for assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. The charges are related to his shooting of former friend Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. He has maintained his innocence.

His appeal argument is primarily on the same grounds as his most recent motion for a new trial.  In March,  his lawyers filed those documents arguing in part that some evidence presented during trial as well as witness statements were prejudicial, ABC News explained.  However, a judge denied a new trial in the case.

Lanez and his team are working overtime to get him home. Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion has been working hard to move past the fateful night. She is now on a sold-out tour, bouncing back from a near-hate train that followed the shooting.

A judge has not yet granted prosecutors their deadline extension request, though it’s likely it will be approved.
