13 Real Life Cheat Codes To Always Keep In Mind

[ad_1]

While the Rolling Stones once said that you can’t always get what you want, sometimes knowing what to say or do can, indeed, get you what you want.

These real-life cheat codes will help you out in various situations to get what you’re looking for.

Always Be Polite

Whether you’re a salesperson, calling customer support, or ordering your morning coffee, being polite can go a long way to helping you out. You’re more likely to close that sale, have support for your needs, or have your coffee ready before you even walk into the door.

Don’t Talk, Listen

There’s a popular saying: you have one mouth and two ears for a reason. The more you listen, the more likely it is to say something truly impactful and beneficial. Being able to employ active listening means you’re in tune with what people are saying and can respond accordingly.

Learn To Cook

Want to impress your friends, family, or even a loved one? Learn to cook! You’ll be sure to impress them, plus what’s more romantic than cooking a meal for two from scratch?

Don’t be surprised, too, when you find yourself saving money by cooking at home instead of always eating out.

Turn Off Gas Station Video Ads

Advertisements are everywhere, including at the pump. You’re just trying to put gas in your car, not hear an obnoxiously loud ad.

Here’s a tip: press the second button from the top on the right-hand side of the gas station pump. The video is muted, and you don’t have to hear the same commercial repeatedly!

While this works for me at my local station, your mileage may vary.

Don’t Drink Alchohol

Avoiding alcohol seems like something that doesn’t have long-term results, but it absolutely does. Not only will you save money by not buying beer or liquor, but you won’t have to deal with the consequences of being inebriated. You can’t get a DUI if you never drink!

Make Decisions Based On Logic

Humans are emotional people; naturally, we make decisions based on emotion. But how many times are those decisions wrong? I’m sure we all know someone who made a giant move because they thought they were in love, only for it to end up poorly.

Making decisions based on logic rather than emotion is a great way to avoid situations that can upend your life.

Invest In Yourself

We’re not just talking financially, either. Yes, it’s important to contribute to your savings account/401k/Roth IRA to set yourself up for retirement. It all adds up even if you put away a “trivial” amount of money.

We’re also talking about physical and mental health, too. Go to the gym, eat well, take care of yourself, avoid anxious situations, and cut out toxic people in your life.

Drink Water

I know it’s hard to believe, but I don’t drink natural water. I gag on it; I can’t explain it!

What I do instead, however, is add Mio to my water so that it has flavoring. Before, I used to drink juices and sodas and constantly felt dehydrated. This one simple change has done wonders for my physical health.

Master Time Management

We’ve all heard someone say, “The day just got away from me.” It feels like you’ve just started your work day, and before you know it, it’s time to clock out despite not having accomplished anything.

Being organized and prepared in time management can help you get ahead in life.

Eat Apples

Energy drinks are everywhere. Despite the jolt of energy they provide, they’re not exactly the healthiest thing in the world.

Instead, eating an apple a day not only keeps the doctor away, but it’s a healthy source of energy to keep you going through the day.

Control Your Finances

For many people, maintaining control of their money is a seemingly impossible challenge. It’s important to sit down and take the time to understand where your money is going. We’re not just talking about budgeting your finances, either.

Understanding how credit cards work, interest rates in your savings account, how much you should be saving, paying off debts, and more is nothing but beneficial in the long run. Don’t forget to always be saving for retirement, too!

Using The Word “No”

For some, the phrase “The word ‘no’ is a complete sentence” is a mantra to live by. Saying “no” gives you the freedom to avoid situations you don’t want to be in. Sure, saying “yes” lets you seize the moment and be spontaneous and exciting, but that’s not something you always want to do.

It’s important to understand that there’s a right time and place for everything. Knowing when you say “no” and when to say “yes” will go a long way.

“No Zero Days”

Speaking of the word “no,” make sure you always remember to say “no” to the word “zero.”

The mantra “no zero days” can be applied to anything: work, hobbies, saving money, fitness, you name it. Doing one push-up is better than doing zero push-ups. Saving $1 is better than not saving at all.
