• Emma Stone (Poor Things, The Curse) returns to SNL for the fifth time tonight! With this appearance she joins the infamous Five Timers Club. She will be the twenty-fourth person to join the club, and will be only the sixth woman to ever join the ranks.
• Though Stone’s last time hosting the show was all the way back in 2019 (with musical guests BTS), she’s still considered one of the best modern day SNL hosts. Her esoteric collaborations on the show with writer Julio Torres especially endure as modern classics, but she is just as well served in energetic sketches like “Les Jeunes de Paris” and even shines in sketches like “Dorm Room Poster” which are so dumb they would make the 1994 SNL cast proud.
• Noah Kahan makes his debut as musical guest this episode. The Vermont-born indie folk singer is capping off a breakout year which saw him score a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, and saw his 2022 album –Stick Season– rise to number three on the Billboard Album charts.
“After Wicked comes out, I’ll be in two musicals where I sing for maybe five seconds total. Now, how did I get away with this? People are going to be mad.”

• Bowen Yang was profiled in InStyle Magazine this month, which includes a cute and fun photo shoot.
• He touches on Wicked a bit, but the bulk of the profile is about his work on SNL. Bowen says that he’s “loosened” his grip this season, in order to leave room for “surprise and delight”. “That is the beauty of [SNL]. Nowhere else in the world can you have an idea on Tuesday and then have it be on TV on Saturday.”
• Bowen also did a fun video for InStyle’s YouTube page where he shares his prized possessions. Readers, it’s delightful.
Crazy Props, Googly Eyes, Better Fake Vomit: ‘SNL’ Star Sarah Sherman Works to Make Viewers Laugh ‘While They Are Screaming in Horror’ https://t.co/RO6WFRt96x
— Variety (@Variety) November 30, 2023
• Sarah Sherman and SNLs special effects makeup chief Louie Zakarian spoke to Variety about what it takes to technically achieve the outlandish visions Sherman comes up with week after week. Sherman, also known by her stage name Sarah Squirm, takes full advantage of the endless resources at her disposal to try and edge SNL closer and closer to her gross out body horror-comedy style. Sherman claims that her comedy isn’t meant to alienate people and that her goal, “is is to bring everybody under the same freak-show circus umbrella.”

• Earlier this week the show released the season 49 cast photo.
• The show also shared a behind the scenes video featuring legendary SNL photographer Mary Ellen Matthews. She talks about shooting her first cast photo back in 2000 and how she takes the photos in Studio 8H on the “home base” stage. She also talks about the recent decision to shoot the photos following the end of an episode. The video shows how the crew tears down that week’s set (this photo was taken after the Timothée Chalamet/Boygenius episode) in order to set the stage for the cast.
