Jacob Anderson recently sat down with Vanity Fair to discuss the finale of Interview With the Vampire, which airs tonight on AMC (the entire season has already dropped online).

Here are a few excerpts from the Q&A:

On the interviewer wanting Louis and Lestat still to work out:

These vampires do some awful things in those books. Some truly awful things, including Louis. But it’s really difficult to moralize them or to look at them in the same way that you’d look at a human. It’s one of the reasons why I think this show really fits into the place we’re in right now as a society. I think we really want to moralize the world—we need to put it into boxes. We need to say, “This is good and this is bad and this is right and this is wrong.” And you need to pick a side, you need to pick a lane. But we live in a very complex world and human beings are very complex. There are nuances that contextualize all behavior and it doesn’t mean that you have to agree with any of it. But you have to acknowledge the nuance in human behavior, and therefore, vampire behavior.

On whether Louis really wants to kill Lestat, or whether he’s doing it for Claudia:

I wouldn’t say he wants to kill Lestat. I think he understands the necessity of it. I think he sees the only way that they’re going to be free. I think it’s less about the want to kill him and more about keeping Claudia safe. After what happened to him, what’s to say that wouldn’t happen to Claudia? [Lestat] wouldn’t let her leave. They’re trapped. They’re prisoners in that house and the only way to be free of that is to kill him. It’s a process of elimination. And the thing that comes out at the end of it is he has to die.
