n an unprecedented crackdown on drug trafficking, customs authorities in Gibraltar have confiscated a record haul of cocaine with an estimated street value of £30 million. The operation, which took place in Gibraltar waters, marks a significant blow to organized criminal networks that operate the international drug trade.
Two Operations, One Massive Seizure
The seizure was the result of two separate operations targeting bulk carriers passing through Gibraltar waters. A total of 500kg of cocaine was recovered, making it the largest ever seizure of the drug in the region. The contraband was ingeniously hidden in a sea chest compartment and a parasitic device attached to the hull of the ships — a testament to the smuggling tactics employed by drug traffickers.
