Once renowned for his legal acumen, disbarred lawyer Doron Jorden Kolman has again found himself on the wrong side of the law. The 59-year-old former attorney was recently arrested in the tranquil beachfront town of Wasaga Beach, Ontario. His alleged companions: an arsenal of loaded firearms, ammunition, cocaine, and opioids intended for trafficking.

Kolman’s descent into criminality began over two decades ago. In 1994, the promising lawyer from Richmond Hill was called to the bar. However, within six years, he was stripped of his license after a Newmarket judge convicted him of defrauding more than 20 of his clients out of approximately $1.2 million dollars.

The fall from grace continued in late August, when Ontario Provincial Police pulled over Kolman’s vehicle which he shared with a 28-year-old man from North York—who was also arrested. Later, Kolman faced charges amid accusations of carrying loaded guns, drugs with an overt intent for trade.

After securing bail to a surety, the same man who battled genetic predisposition to gambling addiction and a cruel beginning in life with an abusive father and an alcoholic mother, stepped out of the Barrie courthouse a free man—albeit temporarily. Protecting the nuances of his bail hearing remains a publication ban.

Memories of Kolman’s previous arrests still haunt him. Following his earliest fraud conviction, he was arrested yet again for a comparable offense. And in 2015, he was swept up as one of 19 men ensnared in a colossal bust targeting the notorious ‘Ndrangheta criminal organization in York Region and Greater Toronto Area.

His charges have included conspiracy to commit extortion, counselling an offence, and committing an offence for a criminal organization. Kolman is slated to return to court later this month, although the allegations against him remain untested.
