3 Tips for Photographing your Clifford

Clifford the Big Red Dog movie opens in theaters on November 10th.

All of us have a Clifford in our life, right? Mine is named Moose and he’s chocolate not red but he is a big guy at 90lbs. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen his cute face. He’s also featured on my website a few times. He’s the chocolate lab standing in front of the confetti hearts wall.

As we all know, photographing are dogs is sometimes a challenge so here are my top 3 tips for photographing your Clifford:

  1. Get down low. If you have a small dog, that means you need to get down really low, like on your stomach low. If you have a Clifford sized dog, you don’t have to get down quite as low. If you do get down really low and your dog is big, you might be able to create a photo that makes your dog look Clifford-sized. Ha!

  2. Photography is all about light so use it to your advantage. If you’re outside on a bright sunny day, place your dog in the shade facing the sun. You’ll be able to get nice catchlights in his eyes if he’s in the shade and you face him towards the sun.

  3. Focus on your dog’s eyes. After all, the eyes are the window to the soul.

But most of all, make the photos fun for your dog. Reward him with treats or pets when he does what you want him to do.

Clifford the Big Red Dog movie premieres on Tuesday November 9. I remember reading the books as a kid. Here are 3 facts about the movie:
