Believe it or not, every man harbors a secret: their dream car. There’s a dream car for every type of man. Some want unbridled speed, some long for beauty, and some long for a combination of both. There’s one problem, however: owning the car of your dreams is nearly always prohibitively expensive.
I scoured the internet, spoke to car-enthusiast friends, and thought about the cars I love to curate the perfect collection of dream cars every man aspires to own; if they had the money, of course.
1. 2024 Maserati GranTurismo
While nearly all Maseratis suffer from historic depreciation and sky-high maintenance costs, owning a 2024 Maserati GranTurismo is a lifelong dream for countless auto enthusiasts. Since its engine shares many parts with a Ferrari, it’s wildly powerful yet more affordable than people think, starting at about $160,000.
While that’s not chump change by any means, the GranTurismo’s sub-4 second 0-60 time and dazzling looks will make you forget about the hit to your wallet.
2. 1970 Ford Bronco
Like many Americans, I was captivated by the Ford Bronco (and Evangeline Lily) while watching Lost in the mid-2000s. The scenes with the 1970 model Matthew Fox’s Jack drove during flashbacks left a lasting impression on me, fueling my obsession with this timeless classic.
After a prolonged absence, the Bronco recently returned to the market with the 2021 model, but the 1970 version is arguably the most timeless. I’m sure I’m not the only person who dreams of driving one around sans roof, feeling like the coolest person in town.
3. 1983 Lamborghini Countach
This is a quintessential 80s supercar. Posters of this vehicle adorned the bedroom walls of many teenage boys, myself included. The Countach is a car young men dream about owning one day because, let’s face it: it’s a ridiculous-looking if obscenely cool car.
The Countach looks like something from a video game, with its massive rear spoiler, aggressive styling, and iconic headlights. Over 40 years later, it’s still a drool-worthy machine.
4. 1994 Jeep Wrangler
I’ll admit to being biased in loving 1994 Jeep Wranglers: I owned one in my 20s. There’s nothing better than driving around town in the summertime with the Wrangler’s doors and top off. It was an affordable head-turner that is sadly overshadowed by more modern models like the electrified 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xE.
Tragically, my faithful little red Jeep was put to rest after I accidentally sunk it in an unexpectedly deep pool of water while off-roading in New Jersey. (That’s a story for another day.)
5. 2024 Tesla Cybertruck
Say what you will about Elon Musk, but he knows how to make dream cars. The Cybertruck is polarizing, oversized, and arguably the ugliest vehicle ever manufactured. Still, something about this monstrosity draws me to it. It’s so insane. I need it.
Unfortunately, to own a Tesla Cybertruck, I’d have to pay the big bucks. The top-end trims are over six figures, putting ownership squarely into pipe-dream territory for most enthusiasts.
6. 1963 Chevrolet Corvette
It doesn’t get more American than wanting to own a vintage Corvette. While Chevrolet has produced multiple generations of Corvettes, to me, the best-looking model was the 1963 version. Fewer than 22,000 of these beauties were produced, making them more valuable with each passing year.
If you want to own an undeniably fantastic vintage car that will only increase in value over the years, look no further than a 1963 Chevy Corvette.
7. 1909 Ford Model T
Authentic Model Ts are primarily found in automobile museums, adding to their allure. What self-respecting car fanatic wouldn’t want a 1909 Ford Model T sitting in their garage? Owning a Model T is owning a piece of American history; it was the first mass-produced car made in the United States.
The Model T kicked off a revolution, and driving one would be one of the most impressive things any man could do. I can’t imagine how it would feel.
8. 1996 Dodge Viper
No car embodies the 1990s more than the 1996 Dodge Viper. It’s lightning-quick and arguably as sexy as any other car that preceded it. Like the Countach, the Dodge Viper lived on millions of teenagers’ bedroom walls throughout that decade.
While it lacks many safety features and creature comforts of modern dream cars (there’s a lot of plastic in that interior), it’s a worthy addition to any auto enthusiast’s bucket list.
9. 2012 Porsche 911 GT3
For millions of men, driving their very own Porsche is one of their primary goals in life. Call it a mid-life crisis, if you must. Still, nobody can deny that purchasing a Porsche is a life-affirming moment for even the most discerning gearhead.
In many people’s eyes, the 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 represents the height of the Porsche brand. It’s as capable on-road as on a local track. The 911 GT3 is fast, sexy, and undeniably cool. Ultimately, isn’t that all a guy wants in his car?
10. 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor
The Ford F-150 Raptor caters to a particular demographic: red-blooded Americans who work hard and play even harder. Driving a Raptor means declaring yourself the king of the road, and the best part is that no other vehicle is big enough to tell you otherwise.
The 2024 model is humongous in all the best ways. It can run over anything in its path (not that you want to take advantage of that). Ultimately, it’s a big truck for even bigger personalities.
11. 1996 Lotus Elise
While gearheads may scoff at my inclusion of a Lotus Elise as a “dream car,” I’ve been lusting after this British car ever since I was a kid. It’s like someone took a Mazda Miata and made it cool. From its sexy curves to its unassuming powertrain (from 0-60 in six seconds), the Elise is a fantastic car to drive.
It won’t set any speed records, but the 1996 Lotus Elise has a charm that simply can’t be replicated by other vehicles on the market today.
12. 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon
Any man who wants to drive around in pure, unadulterated luxury while sparking extreme jealousy in onlookers should own a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. Nothing else on the road today looks like it. It’s as if the Jeep Wrangler had a makeover better suited for a king.
The G-Wagon screams “opulence.” Its high-tech features and powerful drivetrain make it a capable on-road performer, but you’ll baby this thing. You wouldn’t want to miss the impressed stares of people who see you drive by.
13. 1967 Ferrari 330 P4
The Ferrari 330 P4 happens when a supercar manufacturer loses to a Ford and responds by building the fastest, most powerful Ferrari ever made as revenge. After losing to Ford in the 24 Hours of Le Mans Race in 1966, Ferrari went back to the drawing board and, well, the rest is history.
Owning a car as fast (and beautiful) as a ’67 330 P4 is the stuff of dreams. It’s a jaw-dropping technical and design achievement.
14. 2024 Tesla Model S Plaid
Remember when I said that Elon Musk knows a thing or two about producing dream cars? The 2024 Tesla Model S Plaid proves my point even further. Not only is it fast, but it’s record-breaking fast, capable of going from 0 to 60 in 1.99 seconds, according to Tesla.
All men want their cars to move as fast as possible, right? Tesla has a winner on their hands with this futuristic, tech-centric sedan (and that’s not even considering its potential game-changing future self-driving capabilities).
15. 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350
Don’t worry, Ford fans. I wasn’t going to leave this iconic muscle car out of any “dream vehicle” conversation. The 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 propelled Ford to new heights upon release. Simply put, it was the best of the best on the market (and, in many people’s eyes, it still is).
Many consider it the crown jewel of the Mustang production run. It invokes images of Steve McQueen and other American icons. Ultimately, we’d all like to be a little more like Steve McQueen, right?
