CLEVELAND (WJW) — Authorities took 10 teenagers into custody Sunday following a vehicle break-in spree on the city’s east side, Cleveland police said in a statement.

Police said they were first called to the Hilton Garden Inn on Carnegie Avenue for reports multiple cars had been broken into on the property. Upon arrival police said they found at least 24 vehicles showed signs of potential theft.

An investigation between multiple police districts found that more vehicles were broken into around that same time from East 14th Street all the way to East 120th Street. Police said that by 12:45 p.m. they figured out a pattern of the thieves and determined they were using two stolen vehicles to get from place to place.

Tracking one of the vehicles to the 2100 block of Columbus Road, the suspects reportedly stole a third car. They also abandoned another car and stole a fourth.

Police said they eventually found the teens hiding out at an abandoned apartment building on the 2600 block of Loop Avenue. They also took three guns from the property.

Here are the list of teens arrested in this case, according to police. As they are mostly juveniles, police are not naming the suspects:

  • 12-year-old male, Cleveland
  • 14-year-old female, Cleveland
  • Two 14-year-old males, Cleveland
  • 15-year-old male, Cleveland
  • 15-year-old female, Richmond Heights
  • 16-year-old male, Cleveland
  • 16-year-old female, Cleveland
  • 17-year-old male, Maple Heights
  • 18-year-old female, Akron

Charges are not yet official, but police said all were arrested “after being found trespassing in an unoccupied structure with the intent to commit a felony.”

Potential charges include grand theft of motor vehicles, breaking and entering, receiving stolen property, obstructing justice and more.

“It is both deeply troubling and unacceptable to see teenagers engaging in such audacious and disruptive criminal behavior,” Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd said in a statement. “The scale of the damage inflicted is significant, and our investigation is ongoing. What the public can take
confidence in is this: arrests have been made, and those responsible will face the full weight of the justice system.”
