Officers arrived at the 1100 block of Rickey Drive in Yuba City at 12:55 p.m. due to a domestic violence call. At the scene, officers learned that the 32-year-old suspect, Marco Hernandez-Mora had escaped the scene in a vehicle.
Yuba City police announced to local agencies to be on the lookout for the suspect and his vehicle. Around 1:30 p.m., a Sutter County Deputy saw the suspect driving in his vehicle near Franklin Road and Harding Avenue.
Before deputies could contact Hernandez-Mora, the suspect began driving erratically and drove eastbound in westbound lanes on Franklin Road. Deputies reported that the suspect collided with another vehicle, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into a tree.
Officials said the suspect fled the scene on foot but was later taken into custody on Hunji Drive by Yuba City Police Officers with the assistance of Sutter County Deputies.
After responding to the collision, Yuba City Police Traffic Division, Fire Department and Sutter County Sheriff’s Department found an unresponsive man in the backseat of Hernandez-Mora’s vehicle. Despite life-saving attempts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries.
Hernandez-Mora faces domestic violence charges, but remains at Adventist Rideout Hospital to receive treatment. Authorities said he will later be booked into Sutter County Jail.
The identity of the man who passed is not being released at this time, officers said. This investigation is currently ongoing and additional charges are forthcoming.
