WASHINGTON — New details have emerged about the deaths of famed actor-turned-director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, after the couple was found dead in an apparent homicide.
The “Princess Bride” filmmaker and his wife were found dead Sunday night in their Southern California home. Law enforcement told multiple media outlets that the couple had been stabbed to death.
The couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested hours after the Reiners were found dead. The LAPD later confirmed that Nick was arrested in connection to the stabbing deaths of his parents. The case will be given to prosecutors on Tuesday as they consider formal charges against Nick, who is being held in custody without bail.
Police haven’t said anything about a motive for the killings.

Nick Reiner attended Conan O’Brien’s party with parents
NBC News and People reported Monday afternoon that Nick and his parents had attended Conan O’Brien’s party on Saturday.
According to the sources, Nick was “disruptive” and made guests uncomfortable with his behavior. NBC News reported that Rob and Michelle had been upset about their son’s behavior and expressed worries about his health. ABC News reported that Rob and Nick had got into an argument at the holiday party.
Rob and Nick Reiner had explored their difficult relationship and Nick Reiner’s struggles with drugs in a semi-autobiographical 2016 film, “ Being Charlie.” Nick Reiner has spoken publicly of his struggles with addiction. By 18, he had cycled in and out of treatment facilities with bouts of homelessness and relapses in between.
ABC News reported Monday afternoon that Nick was arrested near the University of Southern California hours after his parents’ bodies were found.
Tracy Reiner speaks out about Rob Reiner’s death
Tracy Reiner, who was welcomed by Rob via adoption during his marriage to the late Penny Marshall, broke her silence about the “Stand by Me” director’s death.
“I came from the greatest family ever,” Tracy told NBC News. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
She also told NBC News that she had seen her dad a day prior at a family gathering.
Who was Rob Reiner?
Reiner is long one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his work includes some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and ’90s, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride.”
His role as Meathead in the 1970s TV classic “All in the Family” alongside Carol O’Connor’s Archie Bunker catapulted him to fame.
In recent years, he had a role on “New Girl” playing Bob Day, the father of main character Jess Day, played by Zooey Deschanel.
The son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner married photographer Michele Singer Reiner in 1989. The two met while he was directing “When Harry Met Sally.” They had three children together: Nick, Jake and Romy.
Michele Singer Reiner was a producer for “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” “God & Country,” “Albert Brooks: Defending My Life” and “Shock and Awe,” according to IMDB. Earlier in her career, she photographed the cover image of President Donald Trump’s 1987 bestseller “The Art of the Deal.”
