What are we all playing this weekend?

Another horrendously hot Saturday, another wedding to go to. I am all in favour of love, but could we please reschedule it to a cooler day in the year? Mercifully this one’s a London wedding and it can be reached and returned from on the tube. Though travelling on a hot carriage and not arriving looking like a boiled saveloy pressed into a too-small suit will be a challenge.

Enough about the unsightly business. Let us bask in the beauty of videogames. This is what we’re playing this weekend.

Edwin
This weekend I am playing: Tennocon, the annual Warframe (and now, Soulframe) expo from Digital Extremes. There will be hordes of cosplayers, tsunamis of glowsticks, and much talk of Operators and Drifters and Railjacks. I’ll be hiding in the “Zen room”, mostly. If anybody wearing a fancy mecha hat approaches me I will scream and scream and scream.

Ollie
I’ve started a new game of Endless Legend 2 now that it’s in a better state. Well, I say “a” new game, it’s more like 3 or 4 games in quick succession, because I’m losing very quickly. The higher difficulties are kicking me repeatedly in the arse, but I don’t want to tone it down quite yet. The problem isn’t with the opponents, it’s that I haven’t yet figured out the pacing of the game, and how to keep your armies properly safe in those initial lawless first turns where anything goes and you’re assaulted from all directions. It’s still a lot of fun though, even in that recursive arse-kicking stage.

James
It’s my turn on Being Coy About Secret Review Game duty, unfortunately. Though I’ll meet you halfway by trying to squeeze in some Silksong.

Mark
Last weekend, I drank enough rum that my liver’s probably toast and deafened myself with cannon blasts. This weekend, I think I’ll recover from that raucous debauchery by resuming an Esoteric Ebb playthrough I started just before Black Flag Resynced floated into port.

Callum
We opened the door to Callum’s room and I was met with the smell of the ocean, a strange dappled light like that of the moon, and half a Curly Wurly.

Jeremy
I’ll be yo-ho-hoing my way through the weekend with some Black Flag Resynced. I like this one way more than last year’s Shadows, which was the first Assassin’s Creed game I actually played. (The time I spent watching my roommate run around as Ezio back in university doesn’t count, right?) All of the pirate stuff is good, Edward is an okay protagonist, and I especially appreciate how there is zero faff at the beginning of the game as opposed to Shadows’ endless barrage of cutscenes around two not-so-interesting characters; sorry Yasuke and Naoe.

Julian
As I gave away in the header of my Supporter Post, I’m currently getting to grips with Frosthaven. Is this an attempt to wield my editor powers and counter-program a heat wave or am I preparing for an interview with Julian Gollop? Only time (and embargo restrictions) will tell.

From my early hours completing the turn-based strategy game’s prologue, I am very slowly starting to make sense of its unusual card system. Each turn, for every character in your party, you must pick two cards, each which can be played in multiple ways. It’s a lot to hold in your mind when plotting out what you will do in your turn, especially when turn order is based on a card’s initiative scores, so there’s a good chance your target will have moved when it’s your turn. I’m winning battles but I still don’t think I’m making smart decisions. Yet.

And you, reader dear, what are you playing this weekend…?
